Tuna + Fruit = Rough Run

Well it's been awhile, but that's not to say that the training has stopped!!

Some of the rides and runs have been getting longer (so butts are getting less seat sore!), and the swims a bit more intense. Although this week the intensity is down, it's the longest week we've had so far (a bit over 13 hours), with a 2:30 bike/:45 run on Saturday, and a 1:40 run/1:00 bike on Sunday. Since my last pedal incident I haven't had any issues with my bike, but that might change soon as the weather gets better and we can start riding outside soon!!

The lesson I learned today....eating tuna and an abundance of fruit an hour before a run doesn't make for a comfortable stomach!!

So you need a pedal for biking???

After getting home from school I jumped on my bike to get in a 1hr 20min ride before class tonight (then run 30 min at the reC)...20 minutes in my right pedal snaps right off, guess I'll be riding at OU tonight.

Now my heart is kind of torn right now...my pedal coming off means several things:

a) I can't finishing watching my movie, and riding at the rec is much more boring.
b) I won't be able to sleep as much tonight because I have to ride late after class.
c) I have to buy new pedals (or maybe just a part)
now for the positives...
d) I get to make chicken for dinner...yum!
e) I get to go to the bike store tomorrow ;) (it has been awhile)
f) I was able to blog!

Other than that not much is new in the life of this T-I-T....we finished week 4 strong. Kelsey, Alli and I did a 1:45 ride on Saturday night in my basement. Then Al and I got up early on Sunday, ran 60 minutes (in the pretty dang cold) and rode for 40 min all before 10:30 church.....

now that's hardcore!

Excuse me officer, was I spinning too fast?

First week of IM training = complete!

We completed our first full week of training with a nice 90 minute ride with fellow OUers in Bonnie's Endurance Cycle spin class. Kels, Rach, and I brought our own bikes and trainers to get used to being on them for extended periods of time (ie: 112 miles). Apart from our Debbie Downer instructor (who was, thankfully, just a sub for the normal instructor), it was a blast! Definitely an awesome may to spend a Sunday afternoon!

All in all, this week was a great start to our journey of becoming Ironmen!

When approaching a roundabout while running....

...do you:

a) Yield to all traffic inside the roundabout
b) Conform to rules of running on the road and run through roundabout against traffic
c) Ignore the rules of running on the road and run through roundabout with traffic
d) Run a straight-line to middle of roundabout, pause to consider next step
e) Close eyes and just go for it
f) Hitchhike through roundabout
g) Call roommate and ask to google what to do
or
h) Avoid roundabouts on future runs

The End Is Near....

...of week one!

Highlight of week:
Boy, I mean man, at the pool decides that he should join three girls sharing one lane as opposed to the next lane over which has only one swimmer in the lane. Not only was it awkward when Rach, Kels, and I swam three wide straight at him and he didn't budge, but when he proceeded to swim underneath us the entire hour of our workout (minus goggles, thankfully) he just simply crossed the line. While his acrobatic toe touches at the bottom of the 14 foot diving well were inappropriate given the time and place, his performance instilled a great deal of humor into our workout.

To the man swimming in lane one at Oakland: Get out of the way. Ironmen in training.

And then I found $20....

So today Alli, Jane and I set out on what we thought was going to be an hour run. After a few slips on icy paint creek we decided to make the turn on Brewster and dominate the hill. As we were making our way back down Walton to Al's I look down and see a $20 BILL!!! Naturally, Alli and I scream and use it as an excuse to go chow down at The Mills, delicious!!

So basically we got paid to do our 9.5 miler today...that makes us professionals, right?!?!

Day 1 down...

Kelsey, Alli and I started off our official training today (Foundation week 1, day 1) with a swim at OU after class...a little stroke work, and a realization of how much more we have to swim to make the 2.4 miles but all in all great first day....day #1 down!!
